Open Kitchen Design

It is our belief that the public is often intimidated by a restaurant kitchen. It is the area tucked away in the back, out of sight, out of mind. We founded Salvatori's with an open kitchen design.

From the day-to-day operation, to the making of the fresh dough, to the quality products we stock on the shelves... we are proud of our kitchen. It is available for inspection everyday.

Thank you for showing interest in our kitchen - it is the public's right to know, so peek in - but if you stay too long they might put you to work.

Back by popular demand:

Here is a movie that I did as a college project for IADT a couple of years ago. The assignment was to create a 3-5 minute instructional video about how to cook some kind of food (intentionally vague assignment.) Since my friend owned an Italian restaurant, it only made sense to make a movie about cooking a dish at Salvatori's. The class was quite challenging: storyboard, script, filming, B-role, sound design, and final compilation. If you listen carefully, the background audio is all constructed. Even the onions sizzling is a free sound byte that I found of bacon frying - but it worked in that scene. The dining customers were also added to the background to add the effect of a bustling restaurant (it was filmed at 2:00 in the afternoon.)

The final video turned out pretty good (I got an A in the class, btw,) but I took it down about a year ago.
I thought it just seemed a little hoakie... But it's back by popular demand. Enjoy. -Don

How to make Salvatori's Spaghetti and Meatballs

Running time: 4 1/2 minutes.

I recently converted the movie to Quicktime. It should play on all devices. If you have any problems viewing- the usual culprits are the iPhone and Internet Explorer - please feel free to drop me a line. -Don Click here to get a better browser.
